Leather properties
For the production of our bags, we mostly use leather. Jocht leather is the noblest, most durable and most expensive type of leather. It used to be used mainly for the production of saddlery products. Typically, cowhide is used for the production of leather from the sides and neck, because it is the thickest in this place.
Jocht leather is very stiff and thick and has a natural sand color. To make our bags, the leatherworkers use leather with a thickness of 2.2 to 3 mm. Jucht leather is always vegetable-tanned, which means that only natural tannins are used to tan it.
The most important features of the leather are the extraordinary durability, water resistance and thickness, which in the case of our bags is necessary for punching patterns. Naturally, leathers are not very resistant to water, resistance is obtained by greasing it. Due to the oily protective surface, we recommend keeping our bags away from other leathers, especially suede.
Depending on the type of product, different thicknesses of leather are used. The thinnest ones are used to create wallets, phone cases and in our case to create fringes and straps with which bags are trimmed. The thickest ones are used to create belts, backpacks and briefcases.
Jucht leather, due to its thickness and natural texture, is the only type of leather on which patterns can be punched and carved. All the bags you see on the website, apart from the bags from the Mundo collection, are made of leather.
An unusual feature of the leather is also that its color changes over time. If the leather has not been dyed before and a handbag in natural color is made of it, its sandy color turns into a beautiful caramel color under the influence of the sun. Over time, after several years of use, you can notice that the skin is even darker. In order to maintain the unusual and noble color of leather bags, you should take care of their care.
