Avelar family history
While living and traveling in Mexico, we encountered many types of products that we had never seen before. One of them were bags made of the so-called "cincelado method" , which in Polish means carved . From the beginning, however, we wanted the bags that would appear on the SempreArte website to be original, made in a small family workshop, where the way of making them is passed down from generation to generation. After a few months of travel, in the central part of Mexico, we met a family that has been creating beautiful, carved handbags for over half a century.
While living and traveling in Mexico, we encountered many types of products that we had never seen before. From the beginning, however, we wanted the bags that would appear on the SempreArte website to be original, made in a small family workshop, where the way of making them is passed down from generation to generation. After a few months of travel, in the central part of Mexico, we met a family that has been creating beautiful, carved handbags for over half a century.
The family business was founded in 1942 on the initiative of Mr. Graciana Avelara. At first, the workshop only produced traditional hats for the Charro, bullfighting cowboys. Back then, Mr. Gracian was the only artist in the family inspired by traditional art in the area. He decided to turn his passion into everyday work. In this way, he also began to teach his children how to work with natural leather and a chisel. Over time, further cowboy attributes were added to the assortment, such as: leather vests, knife covers, water skins. For three generations, furnishing for the cowboy outfit was the main product in which the family specialized. Their products have gained a great reputation in Mexico, mainly due to the quality of leather, finishes and very original designs. The family became recognizable, and men were able to drive several hundred kilometers to order one dream product. However, when at the end of the 20th century similar plants began to grow, the family's activity ceased to bring such large profits. Then, Arnoldo, the great-grandson of the founder, who is now the person responsible for the entire business, decided to use the then experience and talent of the family in a completely new industry. In this way, in addition to hats, women's handbags began to be created.
It turned out to be a hit, Mexican women loved this combination of tradition and modernity. Handbags in the Avelar family plant are made of the best quality natural leather, with incredible accuracy. The patterns are unique because they were all made by hand. Each movement of the chisel is knowledge and experience passed down from generation to generation, which makes the bags look amazing. Despite everything, the family did not give up making assortment for cowboys, but now they are single, very expensive products, made only and exclusively to order. Now in Mexico, it is a great prestige for Charro to wear a cowboy hat made in the Avelar family plant. We are also very proud that we managed to establish cooperation with such a wonderful, talented family and we can present their products in Poland.
